Episode Summary

Episode 7 of Hospital Playlist explores how painful experiences can become sources of compassion and strength. Ahn Chi Hong struggles while performing an EVD procedure for the first time, leading Chae Song Hwa to discover the medical condition that forced him to leave the military. Later, during an awake brain surgery, Chi Hong shares his story with a young police officer who believes his own career—and therefore his future—is over. Lee Ik Jun makes a similarly personal revelation to a liver transplant patient who has stopped taking her anti-rejection medication after discovering her husband’s infidelity. Ik Jun tells her about his own wife’s betrayal and divorce, explaining that although he suffered deeply, he eventually realized that giving in to his misery was only wasting his own life. Both doctors use some of their most painful experiences to give their patients hope. Meanwhile, the personal lives of the Yulje doctors become increasingly complicated. Yang Seok Hyeong tells his mother that his father’s mistress is pregnant, prompting her to consider divorce—until her husband and his mistress humiliate Seok Hyeong by checking into Yulje’s VIP ward. Kim Jun Wan and Lee Ik Sun continue their sweet but secret romance, while Jang Gyeo Ul finally gathers the courage to ask Ahn Jeong Won to dinner alone. The episode also raises questions about medical ethics when new surgeon Cheon Myeong-tae allows a pharmaceutical representative to pay for an expensive golf outing, while Do Jae Hak discovers that he may have lost his enormous apartment deposit in a real estate scam. Through stories of illness, heartbreak, professional setbacks, love and friendship, the episode returns again and again to the same hopeful idea: no matter how difficult life becomes, the sun will rise again.
