15.4 - Podcast Review of Episode 4 of Hospital Playlist

Episode Summary

Episode 4 of Hospital Playlist explores the relationships between parents and children, friendship, compassion, and the responsibilities of being a doctor. We discuss several compelling medical cases, including an uninsured foreign patient who needs emergency surgery, the complicated delivery of a baby without an abdominal wall, a congressman whose liver transplant may involve an illegal donor, a heartbreaking case of suspected child abuse, and a baby born with anencephaly. Dr. Bong also gives us a revealing—and very funny—look at “The Lacking Five,” helping us better understand each of our five doctors. We learn especially important details about Yang Seok Hyeong, whose sister’s death, father’s affair, and mother’s stroke help explain his devotion to his mother and his quiet compassion toward his patients. We also talk about the growing romantic interest between Kim Jun Wan and Lee Ik Sun, Lee Ik Jun’s wonderful relationship with his son U-ju, and the origins of the doctors’ band during medical school. Our featured music includes Pachelbel’s Canon in D and Kyuhyun’s Confession Is Not Flashy, and we share some important changes to how we’ll feature music on the podcast because of licensing concerns. We also discuss the pressures facing K-pop performers, women in the Korean military, and some fascinating research about how our bodies age. Finally, we dive into the life and career of Jo Jung Suk, including his musical-theater roots, acting career, incredible singing talent, and his journey to becoming a singer-songwriter.
